Update from Portfolio Holder

The Portfolio Holder presented a progress update to the Committee updating Members on the projects undertaken over the summer and progressing forward into the Autumn. This included 20 family fun days, with over 1,500 people attending; cycle rides at Brands Hatch and Knole Park; buggy rides and prenatal support classes; Silver Sundays and this year we were celebrating 10 years of the national event promoting support and activities for older people across the district.  The next Community Grants round for 23/24 was being promoted to support the voluntary and community sector across the district.

The Committee were advised of new staff, with the Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator, Refugee Resettlement Officer, and the Supported Internship Programme with Brommhill Bank School, who were undertaking work experience placements alongside their studies. Members were also advised of key projects being undertaken by the Team including job fayres, cooking programme and working with Town Councils and partner organisations to build a Warm Spaces directory. The spaces were free, non-judgmental public places where people could go to get warm, save money on their heating costs, avoid social isolation, receive vital support and advice while staying as well as possible.  The aim was to create a directory of all the places available to residents across the public, private, health and voluntary sectors, so everyone who was feeling the cold knows where they can go to get warm, stay warm and enjoy a little company and some hot refreshments.

Members were advised of the July and August figures at the White Oak Leisure Centre which included:

o   The centre currently had 3,076 Fitness Members. 443 memberships were transferred from Sencio.

o   The centre currently had 694 Swimming Lesson Members. 328 lesson membership were transferred from Sencio.

o   In July and August the centre registered 67,721 visits, equating to 1,092 visits per day.
