Cheque presentation

The Chairman, Cllr. Raikes, announced that further to his Charity Gala Dinner hosed at Penshurst on 7 April to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind and West Kent Mind, he had raised over £3000 in total (exact figure was still being finalised and should be more).  Unfortunately Jennifer Godfrey, Community Development Director of West Kent Mind had not been able to attend.  He invited Marion Clayton the Chair of the Sevenoaks Branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind, to come forward and presented her with a cheque.

Chairman for the municipal year 2017/18.

Minutes:

Cllr. Fleming proposed and Cllr. Scholey seconded that Cllr. Larry Abraham be elected Chairman of the Council for the next municipal municipal year.

Resolved: That Cllr. Larry Abraham be elected Chairman of the Council for the municipal year, 2017/18.

Cllr. Abraham made the declaration of acceptance of office and took the chair.  The new Chairman thanked the Council for his election and expressed his appreciation for the many good wishes he had received. 

 

The new Chairman led the Council in expressing thanks to the outgoing Chairman, Cllr. Raikes, for his service to the Council and to the District and to Mrs Raikes in her role as Chairman’s Consort. The new Chairman presented the past Chairman’s badge, Shield and gifts to Cllr. Raikes, and flowers and a gift to Mrs Raikes.

 

In response Cllr. Raikes thanked Cllr. Abraham for his support as his Vice Chairman, and commented on some of the many events he had attended during the year.  He offered particular thanks to his wife and Reverend Robin Jones as his Chaplain.

 

Cllr. Abraham announced that his Consort for the year would be his daughter, Mrs Nikki Warren and presented her with the badge of office and flowers.  He announced that Reverend Jim Fletcher of the Parish of Fawkham and Hartley, would be his Chaplain but was currently on a sabbatical.  He advised that Revered Canon Mark Griffin of St. Luke’s had kindly stood in for this meeting and further advised that he would be leaving in July to take up a new post in Canterbury. Members expressed their thanks to Reverend Canon Mark Griffin for the help he had provided throughout the years in leading prayers at meetings, attending events, and for the hospitality provided for the Chairman’s Carol Service.  The Chairman presented him, and Reverend Robin Jones with small gifts.

Vice Chairman for the municipal year 2017/18.

Minutes:

Cllr. Fleming proposed and Cllr.Scholey seconded that Cllr. Mrs. Bosley be elected Vice Chairman of the Council for the ensuing municipal year.

 

          Resolved: That Cllr. Mrs. Bosley be appointed Vice Chairman of the Council for the municipal year, 2017/18.

 

Cllr. Mrs. Bosley made the declaration of acceptance of office and expressed her thanks to the Council for her appointment.

 

The Chairman of the Council then presented the new Vice Chairman’s Consort, Councillor Bosley, with his badge of office.

The Chairman moved that the Minutes of the meeting of the Council held on 25 April 2017 be approved and signed as a correct record.

 

          Resolved: That the minutes of the meeting of the Council held on 25 April 2017 be approved and signed by the Chairman as a correct record.

5.

Cllr. Fleming proposed and Cllr. Scholey seconded that the delegations to Committees and Officers, and delegations of executive functions by the Leader of the Council be agreed, and appointments to the Cabinet and the composition of the Cabinet Portfolios be noted.

 

Resolved: That

 

a)   the delegations to Committees (Parts 3 – 12 of the Constitution) and the delegations to Officers (Part 13 of the Constitution) be agreed; and

 

b)   the delegations of executive functions and appointments to the Cabinet, be noted.

Minutes:

Cllr. Raikes expanded on his report stating that it had been a ‘voyage of discovery’ and he had been humbled by the many ordinary people of Sevenoaks District doing extraordinary things.  He thanked everyone for their help and support in particular his wife.

 

The report was noted.
